Second Skin Instructions

Assuming you do not have adhesive allergies we will have applied a second skin bandage to your tattoo. If we have not used second skin on you, you can skip to step 3 below.

  • Leave the bandage on ideally for 3-4 days, but at least 24 hours.

  • Take it off under running water, slowly peeling it back

  • Wash your tattoo with antibacterial, unscented soap and let air dry.

  • Continue to keep your tattoo clean

  • Moisturize only when necessary (2-3 times a day) with an unscented moisturizer.

We recommend plain Lubriderm or Cetaphil.

It is normal for your tattoo to be red, swollen, or sensitive for the first few days.

It is normal for you to get an “ink sack” under the second skin. This is just a fluid build up of blood and plasma typically. If the bandage begins leaking, please remove it and reach out to your artist.

If you experience a rash or skin irritation (swelling, excessive redness or swelling) around the bandage you may be having an allergic reaction to it. Please remove the bandage and reach out to your artist.

The second skin bandage is water resistant, but not waterproof. Showers are fine, but do not soak in a bath, etc.

With both types of healing, there are a few rules to follow to ensure a properly healed tattoo.

  • Do not submerge or soak your tattoo until completely healed (roughly 2 weeks)

  • Do not expose your fresh tattoo to sunlight.

  • Only apply sunscreen to a fully healed tattoo.

  • Do not pick or scratch at any scabbing or flaking

  • Do not sweat excessively for the first few days.

  • Do not use alcohol based cleaning products on your tattoo.

  • Do not use an active ingredient based cleaning products on your tattoo

Touch ups are free for the first three months after getting your tattoo. You will need to wait until the tattoo is healed settled into your skin before getting a touch up. After three months, there is a $20 set up fee. After a year, any touch ups will be charged at your respective artists hourly or minimum rate.
